Five Universities Team Up for Conservation Event
Pennsylvania State University, Bowling Green State University, Kansas University, The University
of Toledo, and the University of Texas at Austin will participate in the third Campus Lights Out
event on October 30th, 2015. Campus Lights Out is a joint conservation endeavor, combining the
efforts of each university’s conservation program in order to save energy and resources. The
goal is to encourage faculty, staff, and students to get involved by turning off lights and
electronic devices all around their institutions and to share their efforts via social media by
using the hashtag #CampusLightsOut.
At the first two Campus Lights Out events, a total of 474 people at 5 universities turned off
20,169 lights and 1651 electronic devices in 112 buildings. To further increase these numbers,
other institutions are encouraged to participate – if your school would like to join the event,
please email jessicalu8@utexas.edu or matt.stevens@austin.utexas.edu.
